Fort Bend Independent School District is an outstanding public school system. Comprised of 81 campuses–11 high schools, 15 middle schools and 51 elementary schools – FBISD boasts academic excellence for all.
The district strives to inspire and equip all of their students for successful futures, through a comprehensive approach that supports academics, social-emotional development and mental well-being of its pupils.
Career and Technical Education
Career and Technical Education (CTE) offers students engaging career pathways that incorporate real world practices with evolving skill sets, attitudes and beliefs. CTE offers real world experiences through guest speakers, job shadowing or internship opportunities at every district level. FBISD’s James Reese Career and Technical Center offers all eleven high schools access to advanced CTE programming. At this facility, Enterprise Learning Labs allow students to operate business services available to the public for a fee, giving them hands-on experience while giving back to the community. Students can even earn industry certifications and dual credit in many of these programs offered. CTE also offers student organizations such as Future Business Leaders of America for those interested in business management and administration, Health Occupations Students of America for those considering healthcare careers, SkillsUSA and Technology Student Association to support its student body.
Middle school and elementary school students also have the chance to experience Career and Technical Education via field trips, district-wide programs and James Reese.
Extended Day Program
On school campuses, the Extended Day program provides children with safe and supervised recreational activities before and after regular school day hours. Furthermore, enrichment opportunities may also be made available during holidays, intersessions or whenever interest warrants.
In 1987-88 and 1990-91, more public schools with large minority enrollments offered extended-day programs than did schools with less than 20 percent minority students (table 2). Conversely, private schools less frequently reported providing such services (figure 4).
Skyward FBISD has responded to the COVID-19 pandemic by opening 13 learning centers staffed by district staff, first responders, and active U.S. military to assist students stay on track with their education. Furthermore, FBISD implemented a mask mandate at all campus facilities and required families to self-report any symptoms of COVID-19 they experience. So far the program has enrolled nearly 1,600 students; classes will resume next week. For more information click here or subscribe via e-mail (extended day registration continues month to month). Change requests will incur a $25 fee per request billed monthly by FBISD; for further inquiries please click here
Student Recruitment
Student recruitment is an integral component of college admissions. It provides institutions an opportunity to promote their values, programs and benefits to prospective students and families. Implementing an effective student recruitment plan takes team effort; by engaging staff early in this planning process they may feel more invested in making it successful.
Student recruitment now also involves using social media and website marketing strategies. These tactics can be extremely helpful when trying to reach prospective students in a digital space crowded with educational institutions that compete with each other for students’ attention.
For recruitment messages to be as relevant as possible, it’s crucial that schools understand what students and parents want from an institution. Surveys and research show that Gen Z students prefer universities that align with their personal identities, career aspirations goals and academic ambitions – findings which can inform a school’s recruitment strategy by expanding reach among prospective students through Facebook advertising, email, texting or messenger targeting messages directly at prospective enrolments.
Whole Child Health Initiative
FBISD places health at the forefront of everything we do. Our focus on holistic systems that support student cognitive, physical, social and emotional growth ensures our students remain safe and well prepared to learn.
FBISD strives to meet these needs through offering various health and wellness programs on campus and throughout the community, designed to foster student development of habits and skills essential for lifelong health and well-being.
As part of its response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the District offers health and wellness services based on CDC recommendations to staff members during this pandemic. These services include health education, culture change efforts that promote caring, respect and health as well as contact tracing processes. Furthermore, additional sick leave days have been granted according to Board of Trustees policy on Additional Sick Leave.
